The Imprisoned

The Imprisoned is a large, black beast which Link encounters several times throughout the game. The first time Link fights this enemy is in the Sealed Grounds.

The Imprisoned is first seen as the large whale-like creature flying through the clouds that swallows Zelda, trapping her on The Surface.

First Battle: The Imprisoned

In this battle your overall goal is to stop the monster from getting to the top of the spiral pathway. To do this, you must destroy all of its "toes" and knock the pillar in its head back into place 3 times.

The toes can be destroyed with normal sword attacks. It helps to lock on to a toe, and, if you have the Stamina, to use a Sword Spin attack. This works especially well on the clumps of toes in the front.

Start with the rear toes, though. Once those are gone, the beast will slow a bit. After each toe is removed The Imprisoned will stomp its foot. This is your cue to work on the other foot.

Once all the toes on both feet are destroyed, the monster will fall on its back. At this point you need to get to its head by any means necessary -- whether you have to fall off a ledge and use a geyser or just run around it, get there fast!

When you get to the head, lock on to the pillar and swing your sword in an upwards motion to drive it into The Imprisoned's head.

It will then rear up and cruise around the battle area, invincible for a few moments. Take this time to cross the area, watching for where it stops.

(Note: the toes do nothaveto be destroyed. You can use the large geyser at the bottom of the pit to shoot yourself into the air. From there, you must guide your fall so you land onThe Imprisoned's head, and then you can drive the pillar into the behemoth's head with vertical sword swipes.)

You now need to repeat this entire process two more times. For the last round, the monster's feet will give off dangerous shockwaves. This simply means you have to time your attacks. Go for the back toes first. After that, run far ahead of the beast, refill your Stamina Gauge and aim for a foot.

Lock on, move in while the foot is down and use a Sword Spin and some basic attacks to knock out the toes. You should be able to drop the monster a third time.

Drive the spike into its head a third time and the beast will be sucked into the seal. Approach the seal, raise your sword and perform a Skyward Strike to seal The Imprisoned back in its ethereal cage. To complete the seal, you have to slash your sword in the triangle shape shown. This is not hard. Just swing diagonally down to the right, then up to the right, and then horizontally to the left to complete the seal.

The Imprisoned - Round 2

Right off the bat, you should notice that The Imprisoned now has arms. Don't worry, they wont be too much trouble. There are a few different strategies for taking him down this time.

Method 1

The first is to run up and cut his toes off like before. The Stamina Potion can come in handy here since you can run up to the feet and then use a Spin Attack on each without running out of stamina. You always want to use your Bow on the “rear” toes now that you have it. You can use the Bow to take out all the toes if you wish, but this is pretty difficult.

The big difference this time around is the Groosenator, Groose’s cannon. When the Imprisoned climbs a wall, use the cannon to knock it off. If you choose to go with the toe-cutting route, use the cannon to slow down the monster immediately, then save the next round to knock it down when it climbs.

Of course, when you cut off all the toes, the beast falls on its back. Run around to its head and drive the spike into its brain with your sword.

Method 2

Perhaps the best strategy is to get ABOVE The Imprisoned by a level. Hit it with Groose's cannon and you can jump on top of his head and drive the spike down with your sword. You should get thrown off, but you can just climb ahead of him again and repeat this strategy.

Once you drive the spike into the monster's head three times, head to the ground level and use a Skyward Strike on the spike. Using directional slashes, complete the pattern shown on screen to seal The Imprisoned away a second time.
