SOURCE: olds alero 2.4 idle fuel pressure
most likely idle air control sensor or low engine coolant I know sounds funny but IAC uses coolant to regulate idle. Idle air control valve or throttle body positioning sensor.

SOURCE: Car starts then immediately idles down and shuts off
i have had the same problem at times. my car would start and then shut off. but i found that i needed oil and check my oil and it was a quater low put in some oil and everything went fine i notices that everytime the oil is low the same thing happens also depending on the position of the car being park meaning that if you are in a down hill position or up hill position i will do the same. so you have to accelarate for 1 minute to have the oil go up. i hope this works

Fuel restrictions. Does it get smokey? So first change the fuel filters. Fill the new ones with diesel. Prime it with the hand pump on the motor. Start and run at fast idle fir a few min to get all air out. That should fix it. If not then check vents on top of tanks for blockage. Air needs to go in fuel tanks as level drops if a vacuum will keep the fuel from coming out if the tank. New gas cap recently? Some fuel caps are supposed to be vented, so a wrong replacement cap will cause the "clogged" vent issue. Diesel need fuel filters often so do that first.

You don't! Pull the motor mount bolts and jack the engine up! Use a pice of 4x4 on exaust manifold and only go up as far as U have to, to squeak it out! Should drop down and clear the tranz after that! Good luck!
