Robbie Williams' huge net worth as he prepares to buy childhood football club (2024)

Robbie Williams is said to be preparing to splash the cash and buy his hometown football club Port Vale F.C, which is set to cost the former Take That singer a pretty penny

Robbie Williams is set to follow in the footsteps of Sir Elton John and Ryan Reynolds as the star prepares to purchase a football club.

The former Take That singer, 49, is said to be ready to launch a bid to buy Port Vale F.C, just days after being named club president of his hometown team.

Robbie, who splits his time between the U.K and L.A, was handed the presidency at a special event on Friday night and walked to Vale Park for Saturday's League One game against Portsmouth.

But football clubs don't come cheap, with Port Vale estimated to be worth just under £8million currently. So how much is Robbie worth and can the Angels hitmaker afford to splash out on a childhood dream?

Thanks to writing some of the world's best-loved songs over the last few decades, Stoke-on-Trent lad Robbie is estimated to be worth a whopping £222million - not bad for a bloke once described by Noel Gallagher as "the fat dancer from Take That." The dad-of-four has made his millions thanks to churning out 15 albums as a solo artist and constantly touring the world.

But recently, the former X Factor judge has been dabbled with ventures away from the music industry. Robbie and wife Ayda Field have built quite the impressive property portfolio, with the couple owning homes Zurich - where they lived during the pandemic - a Los Angeles mansion worth £38.9 million, and a £17.5 million home in west London. Not only that, Robbie sold his plush Beverley Hills mansion to Drake for £37 million in 2022.

It seems Robbie has grow tired of mansions and villas and is looking to spice up his vast property portfolio with a sporty addition - a football club. Reports suggest that Robbie, who grew up in Burslem, is in talks to possibly front a bid to buy Port Vale. Not only that, Robbie's purchase could also lead to a lucrative sports documentary series, similar to Hollywood hit Welcome to Wrexham with actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - meaning the singer will get some immediate return on his investment.

Speaking about Robbie's bid to be Port Vale's owner, a source told The Sun: "It's really early days, but Robbie's been formally approached to see if he's interested in fronting a bid. Port Vale remains one of his greatest loves, and it's always been a dream to be more involved.

Port Vale's current owner Carol Shanahan admitted fans called for Robbie - who now wishes to be referred to as 'El Presidente' in his new role at the club - to buy a striker within minutes of his new president role being announced on Friday. She said: "He's had a couple of meetings, and his backers are incredibly excited. They feel Rob would add the star quality, and make Port Vale a major player. Seeing what Ryan and Rob have done with Wrexham - the increased footfall, merchandise sales and general profile build - is inspiring. Port Vale fans love Robbie and, on paper, it's a match made in heaven."

Robbie has been gradually welcomed back into Port Vale in recent years following the end of the turbulent Norman Smurthwaite era and Burslem businesswoman Carol Shanahan buying the club. He even played a homecoming gig at Vale Park - much to the delight of his fans.

Over the weekend, as he was named the new Port Vale president, Robbie admitted: "It feels as though I need to be doing more in and around this place. I just think with Carol and family turning up to Port Vale - if it hadn't been for them none of this would be happening.

"Football clubs are run by people with certain characters. The reason why I hadn't come back up to Port Vale in the longest time was I never met the characters that ran the place. The club hadn't felt loving, homely or welcoming. Then Carol and her family came in, revitalised, changed the place and I noticed this happening from afar and thought that's incredibly interesting. And it sort of got me to reinvest, first interest and then - meeting the family and coming and seeing what was going on - investing my heart back into the club. Let the good times roll."
